State Comptroller and Ombudsman, Matanyahu Englman, participated as a guest at the Israel Hayom conference in Jerusalem – "Israel Builds Resilience", where he engaged in a dialogue with journalist Elinor Shirkani Kofman. During this discussion, the State Comptroller disclosed that his office is actively preparing an audit report concerning the government's treatment of the returned hostages and their families, alongside the support extended to soldiers injured in the war.

He remarked, "Upon assuming office, I established that one of our responsibilities is to serve as a voice for the voiceless. We are all acutely aware of the challenging plight of the returned hostages. For several weeks, crowdfunding campaigns have been carried out for some of them.

At times, it is essential to state the obvious. It is not suitable for those kidnapped on October 7, along with the families of the IDF fallen and injured soldiers, to require crowdfunding.

Consequently, we are currently engaged in an audit of the government's treatment of the returned hostages and their families. This includes an examination the exhaustion of their rights, their allowances, the medical and psychological support, the educational system's approach to the children of the hostages' families, and the preparations for their long-term care. The state has an obligation to support them over the years in accordance with their specific needs".

"Another demographic whose treatment by the state is examined by us, is that of those injured in the war. We are conducting an audit of the health system's rehabilitation response and the response of the Disabled Rehabilitation Division of the Ministry of Defense concerning the injured from the Swords of Iron War. Our examination encompasses the services provided to the wounded as well as administrative factors related to their medical rehabilitation. These individuals enlisted to defend the country, and it is incumbent upon us to ensure the state entities adequately address their needs".

The State Comptroller indicated that he would release reports on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, focusing on the state's response to reservists, with particular emphasis on student service members.
