The State Comptroller and his staff inspected the damage sustained by the research buildings, estimated at about two billion shekels. It is estimated that the reconstruction will take about two years
The State Comptroller and Ombudsman, Matanyahu Englman, toured with his staff (21.7.25) the Weizmann Institute that was attacked by Iran during Operation Rising Lion.
During the visit, which had been planned even before the operation and the hit at the Institute, the President of the Institute, Professor Alon Chen, and the VP for Administration, Alon Weingarten, surveyed the challenges that the Institute is facing following the attack. They presented to Comptroller Englman the damage to the research buildings caused by the Iranian missiles, which is estimated at about two billion shekels. They estimate that reconstruction of the buildings will last for about two years.
The Comptroller and his staff also met with Professor Shimon Ullman, Director of Weizmann AI center, and with Professor Yehiam Prior, Director of the Division of Information Systems, who gave a survey of the Institute's programs in the field of artificial intelligence and in the field of cyber and information security – and the significant challenges facing the State of Israel in these fields.
"The tours and meetings in the field are the best way of portraying the various challenges and their treatment by the state", said Comptroller Englman. "During the tour, we were exposed to the severe damage at the Weizmann Institute. The Office of the State Comptroller is closely observing the Israel Tax Authority's treatment of all the victims of the Iranian missiles. I sent a letter to the Minister of Finance a long time ago in order to ascertain that all the victims of the Operation Rising Lion are receiving appropriate treatment. My Office shall continue to closely observe the state's treatment of these victims".
