Ahead of the release of the report from a special audit conducted by the State Comptroller in IDF outposts along the northern border in the summer of 2023, Comptroller Matanyahu Englman stated: "The serious findings were submitted to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of Staff at the time before October 7 – and were not properly addressed"
State Comptroller and Ombudsman Matanyahu Englman participated (March 31, 2025) in the Annual Conference of the Union of Municipal Corporations held in Eilat. In his speech, the State Comptroller referred to the harsh report stemming from the special audit conducted in IDF outposts along the northern border. The inspection took place in July 2023 but will only be published on April 1, 2025, after the subcommittee of the Knesset’s State Control Committee removed the full confidentiality that had been imposed on it until now, which had prevented its public release.
The State Comptroller stated that the report reflects the security reality on the northern border prior to October 7. "As early as August 2023, we submitted the full report and its serious findings to the Prime Minister, the then Minister of Defense, and the then Chief of Staff," revealed Comptroller Englman. "The serious findings, which should have been treated as a resounding warning sign regarding the defense of all the country's borders, were left unaddressed. Without a doubt, addressing the failures revealed in the inspection could have had an impact on the events of October 7."
