The Secretary-General of the OECD organization is due to visit Israel in April in order to present to the heads of state a significant report that the organization is preparing about the cost of living in Israel – as revealed by Secretary-General Mathias Cormann to State Comptroller and Ombudsman Matanyahu Englman, during their meeting last week29.1.25) ). The report is expected to deal, among other things, with the encouragement of competition in the economy and removing blocks delaying it.

Comptroller Englman, who is also serving as the President of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI), met with the OECD Secretary-General during the International Conference of State Comptrollers, hosted by the organization in Paris, and which was led by the Israeli State Comptroller. 

The Comptroller set out before Cormann the state audit's extensive activity in Israel, including in the matter of the cost of living, gender equality in local government and the national preparedness in the field of artificial intelligence. Cormann congratulated Comptroller Englman on his intensive activity as President of EUROSAI, and expressed interest in strengthening the cooperation between the OECD and the Office of the State Comptroller in the matter of AI and additional interfaces. The Comptroller thanked the Secretary-General and was hopeful that they would meet soon, during Cormann's visit to Israel in April.

The Comptroller, Moshe Samo, and the OECD Secretary-General

During the meeting, Comptroller Englman introduced to Cormann a deputy director at an audit division at the Office of the State Comptroller, Moshe Samo, who is also the father of Staff Sergeant Yehonatan Samo z"l, a soldier in the Paratroopers Brigade who fell in Gaza. The Samo family donated Yehonatan's organs for transplant, thereby saving the lives of six people – including a baby and a person with heart disease, who received the soldier's heart. During the meeting, Cormann  expressed his condolences to Moshe Samo, a senior staff member in the Office of the State Comptroller, and the father of Staff Sergeant Yehonatan Samo z"l, a soldier in the Paratroopers Brigade who fell in Gaza.

"At the opening of the meeting, the Secretary-General expressed the hope that all the hostages remaining in Gaza would be released quickly", said Comptroller Englman. "I thanked him for the OECD organization's support of Israel and the organization's fruitful cooperation with the State of Israel and in particular at this time. As President of EUROSAI, I also thanked him for hosting the conference where 35 state comptrollers from all over the world took part. We agreed that we would continue to hold the conference in this format next year as well".
