Comptroller Englman: "The Light Rail embodies the importance of the use of public transportation as an alternative to the private vehicle… We are currently conducting an audit on the matter of security at the Light Rail"
Yesterday (7.1.25) State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman toured the outline of the Light Rail's (Dankal) Red Line in Gush Dan, together with Itamar Ben Meir, CEO of NTA (the company establishing the Light Rail and the metro in Gush Dan). The State Comptroller was accompanied by his office's Director General, Brigadier General (Res.) Yishai Vaknin, and the Director of the Defense Forces Audit Division, Eitan Dahan, and his team.
During the tour, senior staff from the Light Rail presented the concept of the security and operation of the train and the company's activity in building additional light rail and metro lines. The Comptroller visited the control center and the operations center, and tried out the train simulator which simulates an actual ride.
Afterwards the Comptroller and his team rode on the train from the Kiryat Arye station in Petah Tikva to the Elifelet station in Tel Aviv. At the various stations, the Comptroller saw a demonstration by the train's security unit, including the use of dog handlers as part of the security array on the train. Some of the dog handlers are graduates of the IDF Oketz Unit.
At the end of the tour the Comptroller said that "The Light Rail embodies the importance of the use of public transportation as an alternative to the private vehicle. It makes a significant contribution to reducing traffic jams and preserving the environment. We are currently conducting an audit on the matter of the security at the Light Rail, of which this important tour is a part, where we were shown the complex security activity operated by NTA. This is supremely important for protecting Israeli citizens, in particular at this time when the state is faced with many security challenges in various arenas".
