State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman conducted a tour today (25.11) of the Seam Line localities in Hefer Valley and at the Mei Ami and Magal localities in the Menashe Regional Council. The tour, which was designed to examine the security situation in the localities adjoining the fence, was accompanied by the Office's Director General Ishay Vaknin, Director of the Defense Establishment Division Eitan Dahan, and other representatives from the Office of the State Comptroller.

The residents of the area described to the Comptroller the security problems of the localities adjoining the fence and raised many claims about how the government ministers are not complying with their obligations to solve them. The Comptroller and his team identified the security gaps and the defense budgets required from the army and the state.

The tour was conducted with the participation of the Head of the Hefer Valley Council Galit Shaul, the Head of the Menashe Council Ilan Sadeh, the directors of the localities and other council members.

Comptroller Englman at the Seam Line localities

State Comptroller Englman said that "I am worried by the security gaps that arose during the tour. The October 7th massacre brought a deluge of acute security problems, not only in the north and south, but also in the center of Israel and in Jerusalem. The response to the security needs must be immediate and fitting in particular after the government has resolved to budget the security elements in the localities".

"A report we published about the effectiveness of the obstacle on the Seam Line revealed as far back as nearly two years ago that about one half of the fence is breached and that about 3,600 illegals penetrate into Israel every day in broad daylight. The government and the Defense Establishment are obliged to take the residents' complaints about the security situation in the region seriously, especially after the massacre in the south".

The Comptroller noted that "We are currently conducting a follow-up audit on the security situation along the Seam Line and the Jerusalem Envelope, where we shall thoroughly examine the conduct of the government and Defense Establishment members in safeguarding the security of the Israeli citizens".
