"An attack against the institution of the State Comptroller – is dangerous and harms the gatekeepers and the democratic fabric of the State of Israel". Said Comptroller Englman. "We cannot abandon the north"
Comptroller Englman in a tour of the north in the schools located in the range of fire, where children who have been evacuated from their homes are studying: "An attack against the institution of the State Comptroller – is dangerous and harms the gatekeepers and the democratic fabric of the State of Israel. As I have announced more than once – the audit deals with all echelons: The political, the civilian and the military. Every office holder in an audited body is obliged to fully cooperate with the audit in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law. We shall continue the audit work fearlessly".
He further added: "We cannot abandon the north".
Today (5.9.24), State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman, together with his Office's Director General and professional parties in his Office, toured schools for evacuees from Kiryat Shmona and the Upper Galilee Regional Council, in Tiberias and Kfar Blum.
The Mayor of Kiryat Shmona Avichai Stern, the Head of the Upper Galilee Regional Council Giora Salz, and the Director of the Northern District in the Ministry of Education Dr. Orna Simhon, participated in the tour.
The Comptroller said at the end of the tour that "An attack against the institution of the State Comptroller – is dangerous and harms the gatekeepers and the democratic fabric of the State of Israel. As I have announced more than once – the audit deals with all echelons: The political, the civilian and the military. Every office holder in an audited body is obliged to fully cooperate with the audit in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law. We shall continue the audit work fearlessly".
In the matter of the north, he said: "We are at HaGome School in Kfar Blum – a school that is operating under fire".
I am calling upon the Prime Minister and the ministers: Come to the north, we cannot abandon the north. We must allocate resources considering the continuing tension. We are at a school that is conducting an educational routine under fire. It is an anchor for the children, the parents and the teachers. I want to say thank you to the head of the council. The government must enlist itself in favor of the north.
"The need to provide a solution not only for the evacuated localities but also for the residents who have decided not to evacuate is even more clear. Today we have met in the schools here and in Tiberias, children who have been evacuated from Kiryat Shmona. One of them, a 6th grade student, told me that she had already been in eight different places of residence during the past year. Another child witnessed a rocket falling close to him which injured his father. He was miraculously saved".
"These are highly significant challenges for the educational system, for the children and the residents".
"Another child related how his father had not worked for eight months already and is not receiving any payment because he had not been evacuated from the locality".
The north must receive all the resources and the attention of the government and the ministers.
"In this school where we are today in Kfar Blum, there are about 250 children, alongside them there are a further 300 children who are scattered all over the region that is under continual Hezbollah fire. The residents of the north deserve the attention and the resources necessary at this time. We have also visited a school in Kiryat Shmona that has now been evacuated to Tiberias. Out of 1,400 high school students, there are 400 children whose homes have been hit. Understand the meaning. We have seen with our own eyes the importance of the educational system for the children of the north during this difficult time".
