The State Comptroller to Eyal Eshel: "In our audit we see before us the surveillance soldiers who fell, the hostages, the murder victims… if they had listened to the surveillance soldiers, we might possibly be in a different place"
Eyal Eshel, the father of surveillance soldier Sergeant Roni Eshel Z"L, who fell on 7/10 at the Nahal Oz outpost, met today (20/5/24) with State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman.
Eshel described to the Comptroller the severe failures that occurred in relation to the surveillance soldiers, and said that the conduct of a comprehensive audit by the State Comptroller was critically important, as quickly as possible, both on the political echelon and on the military echelon, in order to prevent the next disaster and so that the assumption of responsibility for the failures be realized. This is alongside internal investigations and the public demand for the formation of a national investigation committee.
Comptroller Englman clarified that this was one of the main subjects of the audit and said that "In our audit we see before us the surveillance soldiers who fell, the combat soldiers, the hostages, the murder victims and everybody who was wounded. The citizens of Israel deserve answers. If they had listened to the surveillance soldiers and other parties who gave warnings before 7/10, we might possibly be in a completely different place". Alongside this the Comptroller said that the audit on the IDF and the ISA had been suspended until the hearing in Bagatz, which is expected to take place during July.
