State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman took part today (Monday, 10.6.24) in the MuniExpo Local Government Conference. The Comptroller held an open discourse with the heads of authorities and afterwards spoke at the conference plenum
In his speech, the Comptroller related to the position of the Attorney General, who expressed her opposition to the state audit on the IDF, as the Comptroller is also doing on the political echelon and the civilian echelon regarding the failures that preceded 7.10, the day of the massacre and thereafter.
Comptroller Englman said that "There is a substantial contradiction in the position of the Attorney General. On the one hand, she is demanding that a national investigation committee be formed immediately, and on the other hand, in the petition to Bagatz (High Court of Justice) she is representing the position that objects to the State Comptroller's audit of the IDF and the Israeli Security Agency, on the ground that the audit at this time will prejudice, as it were, the military efforts due to the attention it would demand from the IDF for the purpose of holding the audit".

"Attention would be required, whether it is a state audit, or whether it is a national investigation committee. Why does this ground apply only to the state audit, which is empowered in the Basic Law to perform the audit? The Attorney General has the solutions".
"I have already made it clear that insofar as a national investigation committee is formed, I shall set the perimeters by mutual consent, in relation to the matters to be examined".
