Comptroller Englman Meets with Evacuees at Hotels in Jerusalem: "The Government Ministries Must Complete the Preparation of the Economic Plan and Provide Support to the Hundreds of Thousands of Evacuees" (7.11.23)

State Comptroller Englman met today (November 7, 2023) with evacuees from northern Israel who are staying at hotels in Jerusalem. During the visit, the state comptroller participated in a ceremony for the hostages, at the Dan Jerusalem Hotel.

In a meeting with evacuees, the comptroller heard about the gaps that still exist, a month after the war started, and about the many difficulties that they are coping with while they are away from their homes. The gaps that came up related to the lack of an economic plan, the provision of limited support for educational frameworks for children, and difficulties in daily conduct.

Beforehand, the state comptroller participated in a situation assessment meeting with Mayor Moshe Lion at the municipal situation room. During the meeting, the mayor and the municipality's director-general gave the comptroller and his staff a survey of various aspects of the municipality's activity since the outbreak of the fighting, including taking in evacuees, opening shelters, the activity of the municipal hotline, security at educational institutions, setting up emergency squads, support and guidance for the families of those killed, injured, kidnapped and missing, and more.

Comptroller Englman: "The government ministries must complete the preparation of the economic plan and provide support for hundreds of thousands of evacuees from frontline communities in southern and northern Israel. We at the Office of the State Comptroller are focusing at this time on the handling of the home front. After extensive tours throughout southern and northern Israel and in the local authorities that have taken in evacuees, today we came to the Municipality of Jerusalem's situation room. Mayor Moshe Lion surveyed the arrangements to take in 15,000 evacuees as well as the city's efforts to cope with the security needs of all residents in places of residence and educational institutions.

"The Municipality of Jerusalem and all of the local authorities taking in evacuees are leading the handling of evacuees. At this time the government ministries must quickly and effectively address all of the gaps that have been brought up by the home front."
