The residents shared with the State Comptroller and his team their experiences of the previous Saturday, October 7, which began at 6:30 in the morning. During this period, they endured a prolonged battle on their own against Hamas terrorists since security forces did not arrive to help them. Some managed to evacuate their families by their own efforts to the Ma'aleh Hachamisha Hotel. The residents expressed significant disappointment with the lack of assistance from the security forces on that day and the government's delayed and insufficient responses. They also detailed the ongoing challenges they have been dealing with since October 7.
State Comptroller Engelman told the residents, "The most fundamental duty that a state owes to its citizens - personal security - was compromised on that fateful Saturday, during the holiday morning. As I've previously stated, a comprehensive evaluation of these failures will be conducted after the war."
During such times, it is the responsibility of all state authorities to take actions on behalf of the residents in the Gaza Envelope. It's impossible to equate the profound difficulties experienced by these residents. We stand with you to ensure that you can assert your full rights efficiently and with maximum accessibility. The State Comptroller and Ombudsman's office has opened a dedicated hotline for the southern residents, which operates 24 hours a day. Teams from the State Comptroller and Ombudsman's office will be conducting further inspections at other evacuee centers in the Gaza envelope to ensure that all required government services are provided.
