The State Comptroller at the Exposure to the Ultra-Orthodox Sector Convention (8.5.23)

On Thursday evening (4.5.23) State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman held an evening for exposing the reports of the Office of the State Comptroller and Ombudsman in all matters pertaining to the ultra-Orthodox community

The event was attended by representatives from the ultra-Orthodox sector - municipal officials and ultra-Orthodox public influencers.

The State Comptroller surveyed his office's activity and emphasized the importance he attaches to making the Office of the Ombudsman at the Office of the State Comptroller accessible for complaints from the entire public - including from the ultra-Orthodox sector and in particular from those whose voice is not heard. He further detailed the findings of the state audit reports in many fields and in particular those dealing with the ultra-Orthodox public.

The Comptroller emphasized the importance of preserving integrity and compliance with the statutory requirements and the state comptroller rules in preparation for the municipal elections which are due to be held this year. He informed the audience that the Office's directives for all the candidates in preparation for the municipal elections may be found on the Office's website and will be sent to the participants in the convention.

According to the State Comptroller, "There is great importance to the fact that the state audit deals with the activity of audited bodies on all strata of Israeli society - including the ultra-Orthodox sector. We have fixed a target to make the activity of the Office of the Ombudsman accessible to as many communities as possible, and in particular those whose voice is less heard. I am grateful to the large audience which came from the ultra-Orthodox sector and which expressed great interest in the audit and the investigation of the complaints. The participants raised many issues concerning the ultra-Orthodox sector - including making public services accessible to the ultra-Orthodox population, which is among those populations with poor technological accessibility, as well as issues in the regulation of public transport and the handling of the housing requirements by the ultra-Orthodox society. The matters raised by the participants will serve us as inputs for future audits".
