Comptroller Englman at the Site of the Terrorist Attack at Eli: "We are examining the protection of the roads in Judea and Samaria" (22.6.23)

Today (Wednesday, 21.6.23), State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman visited the site of yesterday's terrorist attack at Hummus Eliyahu, Eli, together with Yisrael Gantz, head of the Binyamin Regional Council

The Comptroller said that in recent months his office is working on an audit report on the matter of the protection of the axes in Judea and Samaria.

According to him, "The loathsome terrorist attack where Elisha, Harel, Nachman and Ofer were murdered, which took place here yesterday, is the last in a series of terrorist attacks with casualties in the region during recent months. I say the last, but to my sorrow I must add: for now. In recent months we at the Office of the State Comptroller have been working on an audit report concerning securing the axes in Judea and Samaria.

The Government's duty is above all else to protect its citizens. As part of the report, we are examining the issue of manning and removing the roadblocks between areas A, B and C. We shall examine the decision-making process in the matter and whether a renewed examination of this issue should be performed from time to time due to the changing security reality in the region.

Furthermore, we shall examine the solution to the hostile terrorist events on the part of the security forces and from the point of view of the residents.

We are also examining whether the security agencies have mapped out the "red" axes in Judea and Samaria, the existence and implementation of plans for protecting the axes and the localities, whether the order of battle – from the manpower and military resources aspect, is sufficient, the lack of cellular reception in the dangerous areas and additional aspects.

We shall publish the report in the coming months after we have finished preparing it.

I wish to thank the IDF soldiers and security forces for their dedicated activity – day and night – for the sake of the security of Israeli citizens, and express my condolences to the families of the fallen and a speedy recovery to all the injured".
