State Comptroller and Ombudsman, Matanyahu Englman, at event marking Children’s Day at the Knesset (29.11.22)

The State Comptroller and Ombudsman reviewed before the audience the audit report on protection of children in the digital environment published several months ago

State Comptroller and Ombudsman, Matanyahu Englman, participated today (Tuesday, November 29, 2022) in the Children’s Day event at the Knesset. The event was held at the initiative of Minister of Aliyah and Integration, Pnina Tamano-Shata, and Knesset Member Yaakov Margi. Participants in the even included Dr. Yifat Shasha-Biton, Knesset Member Yosef Taieb, and Vered Windman, Executive Director of Israel National Council for the Child (NCC), as well as representatives of the police, government ministries, the student council, representatives of the youth movements and third sector organizations.

The State Comptroller and Ombudsman reviewed before the audience the audit report on protection of children in the digital environment published several months ago.

According to Englman, “upon assuming the role of State Comptroller, I set conducting audits on the protection of children as an objective. What begins with a lack of protection at a young age is perpetuated with inadequate protection of conscripted soldiers serving in the Israel Prison Service and Border Police forces. Several months ago, we published the report on the protection of minors online, and yesterday published a sequel to it on the problematic reality encountered by conscripted servicemen and women. In both cases, significant deficiencies arose.

"I am pleased that this flag has been raised by Minister of Aliyah and Integration, Pnina Tamano-Shata, Minister of Education, Dr. Yifat Shash-Biton, and Knesset Member Yaakov Margi. I call upon the relevant bodies to act towards correcting the deficiencies that arose in the report”.
