Who Are We?

The increasing involvement of government authorities in the life of the individual creates many points of friction and a growing dependence on bureaucracy.  This dependence enhances the need to protect the individual against potentially harmful administrative decisions.

Accordingly, in 1971 the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) appointed the State Comptroller of Israel to serve also as Ombudsman.  This combination of the two functions is unique to Israel and enables the State Comptroller and Ombudsman to monitor closely developments in public administration while utilizing the synergic relationship between the two offices.

The State Comptroller fulfills his duties as Ombudsman through the Office of the Ombudsman which investigates complaints against bodies which according to law are subject to state audit.
