The 63rd EUROSAI Governing Board meeting took place in London on 30-31 October 2024, beginning with an evening reception featuring a Q&A panel on cybersecurity moderated by EUROSAI President and State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel, Mr. Matanyahu Englman. Mr. Englman discussed cyber threats with Mr. Gil Shwed, Founder and CEO of Check Point Software.
Mr. Englman stated, "The topic of cybersecurity is of paramount importance. Upon assuming the role of Israel's State Comptroller, I established a dedicated cyber audit division within my office due to the critical nature of this issue and its associated risks. Sharing knowledge on cybersecurity among EUROSAI members is one of my significant goals as President. I am proud to be among the State Comptrollers who engage hackers to test the cybersecurity defenses of the audited entities. I believe it is essential to prioritize cybersecurity audits on our agenda and foster knowledge sharing among State Auditors, especially given the substantial risks this area presents."
The Q&A panel was followed by an insightful lecture on "The Opportunities and Dangers of AI" by Alan Brown, Professor of Digital Economy at the University of Exeter.
On the first day of the meeting, a special session focused on AI strategies took place, with Mr. Englman opening the discussion. This was followed by presentations from Mr. Tony Murphy (European Court of Auditors) and Mr. Janar Holm (SAI Estonia and Chair of the EUROSAI IT Working Group). Each speaker underscored the importance of integrating AI tools into audit processes and developing strategies that align with technological advancements.
