State Comptroller, Mr. Matanyahu Englman Visits the Rehabilitation Village “Aleh Negev – Nahalat Eran”

Today, the State Comptroller and Ombudsman visited the rehabilitative village for special populations, Aleh Negev – Nahalat Eran. During his visit, the Comptroller heard about the village’s activities and the educational and medical care it provides

Today (5.8.2020), the State Comptroller and Ombudsman, Mr. Matanyahu Englman, visited the rehabilitative village for special populations, “Aleh Negev – Nahalat Eran”, as part of his one-day tour in the south of Israel. During his visit, Mr. Englman and Ms. Liora Shimoni – Head of the Social Welfare Division at the Office of the State Controller, who joined the visit - were shown around the village by Major General (Res.) Doron Almog, the Chairman of the Village, and by its Director, Mr. Avi Wortzman.

During his visit, the Comptroller heard about the village’s activities and the educational and therapeutical care it provides. The Comptroller was also shown around the various facilities, including the kindergartens, the musical garden, the horse ranch and the swimming pool. He was introduced to the “Back to Myself” project for occupational rehabilitation preparing participants for reintegration in the labor market, while providing personalized support and the tools required for leading an independent life; the Comptroller was also introduced to other aspects of the village life where patients with disabilities and of all ages undergo a lifechanging therapeutic and rehabilitative experience.

Mr. Englman praised the activities of the village and its dedicated team and heard about its vision, the challenges and the opportunities leading to its establishment and about its development over the years.

At the end of his visit, the Comptroller left the following message in the village visitors’ book: “Please receive my heartfelt congratulations for your impressive and empowering work for the benefit of people with disabilities in the Negev. Your work serves as a model for the entire Israeli society. May you prosper and increase the scope of your work”. The Comptroller also said: “I attach great importance to addressing the needs of populations with disabilities, especially in the periphery. At the Office of the State Comptroller we focus on these social aspects in order to promote the interest of special populations which are in need of support”.

Doron Almog, the Chairman of the village added: “I would like to thank the State Comptroller for his visit in the village. His recognition of the important work we are carrying out in support of the residents of the south of Israel is extremely important and serves as a huge source of support, especially during the period we live in, in which we are all are required to demonstrate mutual responsibility and the acceptance of the other. We are currently building the first rehabilitative hospital in the south of Israel and continue giving the best quality of life and care to our residents and patients – all during the COVID-19 pandemic. I would like to thank the Comptroller for his warm words and support in our work for the weakest links in our society.
